Announcing our Partnership with Beyond Alliance to Develop a Global Corporate Roadmap on Superpollutant Action

Superpollutants are powerful warming agents such as methane, black carbon, and refrigerant gases that are responsible for roughly half of all climate warming to date and can contribute to harmful air pollution. Cutting superpollutants is one of the most effective and immediately available ways to slow near-term warming, making it a critical emergency brake for the planet.

The Carbon Containment Lab is supporting a new effort - the Superpollutant Action Initiative - that will guide the deployment of a recently pledged $100 million commitment to unlock action in areas where progress is critically needed. Through the Initiative, companies including Amazon, Autodesk, Figma, Google, JPMorganChase, Salesforce, and Workday, will each identify and fund high-impact projects targeting superpollutants around the world that deliver not only positive climate effects but positive health and economic benefits as well.

The Initiative is organized by the Beyond Alliance, a business-led coalition focused on scaling corporate funding for high-integrity climate solutions. Beyond has selected the Carbon Containment Lab as its partner for developing a global roadmap highlighting how companies can support progress on superpollutant action. The roadmap will outline how and where private capital can be deployed to achieve the greatest impact and will be made publicly available later this year to enable other companies, investors, and governments to accelerate progress.

The Roadmap will focus on value chain solutions, voluntary carbon markets, and policy levers and adhere to a set of guiding principles including catalytic impact, scientific rigor, transparency, urgency, and collaboration.

While this $100 million Initiative represents a meaningful start, it is only a small fraction of the global investment needed to address superpollutants at scale, and the companies involved recognize that this does not change the need for long-term decarbonization. Through this Initiative, the Beyond Alliance aims to set a clear precedent for others across the private and public sectors and welcome additional partners to join this urgent effort against superpollutants.
